Baldur's Gate, Descent into Avernus 01: The Gate

Every journey has a beginning. Our adventure begins, rather unassumingly, with a dwarven merchant trying to enter the city of Baldur's Gate.

What comes to pass there, at the gates of this corrupt city, will intertwine the fates of our heroes, and eventually send them down the road... to hell.

EPISODE_01.jpg

Things from the Flood with Nils Hintze

At GothCon earlier this year we had the great privilege of playing Free League Publishing's "Things from the Flood" with the game's Lead Designer Nils Hintze as our Gamemaster.

This is the follow-up to the award winning "Tales from the Loop" and is also based on the amazing art of Simon Stålenhag.

What you will be able to listen to here is the scenario "The Ugliness" from the core book played as a oneshot, beginning with one hour of character creation and peppered full with 90's nostalgia. If you want to jump straight to the play session you can skip ahead to 00:58:37.

If you want to hear more of Nils you should check out his amazing podcast PodCon, which you can listen to here http://pod-con.blogspot.com/

Thus concludes the first season of “No Man is an Island”, but don't worry, our story will continue next year. After a pallet cleanser next week we will be back with more vampires and “The Sacrifice” from Chicago by Night on September 6th.

Seven Sisters 03: Bethanien

The Bethanien Hospital was opened in 1847 on Mariannenplatz in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. The name is a very common one given to many hospitals run by the church due to the connection with the story of Lazarus of Bethany, who was brought back to life in one of the miracles of Jesus.

Bethanien was used both as hospital and barracks during the second world war, but its significance waned after the war and it was finally closed in 1970. The subsequent planned demolition led to fierce resistance and it being taken over by squatting leftist activists and artists. The community in the old hospital would create many collaborative art projects and the cult singer Rio Reiser also began his creative career there. Today Bethanien is a centre for contemporary art exhibitions and events.

In the final installment of this classic Planescape adventure, our characters face a series of terrifying challenges, each more horrific than the last… all in the desperate hope that they might finally escape from the plane of Baator and perhaps even one day to find a portal that will eventually lead them back to their home world. But, how many more of their dwindling numbers will the Nine Hells ultimately claim before they even have a prayer of safely setting foot upon the streets of Sigil: the City of Doors...? Abandon all hope, ye who exit here.

Seven Sisters 02: Flakturm

With the Allied air forces starting to strike back with bombing raids on cities like Berlin and Hamburg, the German high command ordered the construction of massive concrete anti-aircraft towers in the middle of these core cities. The Luftwaffe would lead the air defenses from these fortresses and they successfully made aerial bombardment a very costly affair.

During the fall of Berlin the Tiergarten "Zoo tower" would come to serve as the last point of resistance in the city, with the last remaining Wehrmacht armored units rallying around the tower for a final futile stand against the the overwhelming forces of the Soviet Red Army.

The Zoo tower was demolished in 1947, but towers in cities like Vienna and Stuttgart still remain and have been converted to alternative use.

Seven Sisters 01: Berlin 1945

Mattiaz had the opportunity to be a guest on the Fenix-award winning podcast Sweden Rolls and lead the crew there through the KULT: Divinity Lost adventure “Seven Sisters” written by our favorite people Gunilla Jonsson and Michael Petersén.

The adventure is set in Berlin in February 1945, two months before the Red Army conquers the city and the final fall of the Third Reich, and we will follow two allied agents and a German resistance fighter as they go undercover and attempt to track down a missing spy from MI6.

In the fifth installment of this classic Planescape adventure, our characters must traverse the hellish plane of Baator to find (and then barter for) the keys to their escape from the fabled Pillar of Skulls… though how could they ever hope to trust something actually comprised of the souls of dead sages who in life had lied for a living?
